Communication in corona time has been disruptive. Monique Wilson, acting director of communications at the Municipality of Amsterdam, talks about the impact of the corona crisis on communication policy. What have citizens, administrators and colleagues learned during this time of crisis? Her ambition is to build Amsterdam together and to deliver the best results within an organization and city that is constantly on the move.
The lecture will last approximately one hour. There will be time to ask questions after and during the lecture. And afterwards we can chat or spar about other interesting topics during drinks at the bar of the Green Palace.
Monique Wilson has been working at the Communications Department of the Municipality of Amsterdam since September 2018. She has lost her heart to cities and the communication profession. Wilson: ”As a committed resident, I am honored to contribute to the development and positioning of this city. My entrepreneurial attitude comes into its own best within a complex field of stakeholders. Building a communicative organization within a political environment really appeals to me. Am curious and looking for opportunities to improve communication with the Amsterdammer and thus bring our performance to a higher level. As a manager, I hope to inspire people and learn from them at the same time.”
In the new Communications Department, she functions as Department Manager for Management and Concern. With the aim of developing and monitoring the joint communication strategy and communication policy. The department coordinates municipality-wide communication, advises the board and ensures connections between the board, organization and city. External Relations works on behalf of the Municipal Executive on complex projects and assignments involving sensitive/confidential information and a high risk of loss. They strive for more accessibility and reliability of policy and implementation related to the assignments, by making means of communication in image and language suitable for all different target groups in society.
